If you’re a do it yourself junkie, you know that there’s a DIY alternative for pretty much any product you can buy commercially. Well, personal lubricants are no different. Here are three recipes you can use to learn how to make your own lube, along with a few other helpful tips!
Chocolate Body Butter
Not only is this lube delicious and effective, it’s also paleo friendly for those of you that are into that! Here’s what you’ll need:
- ½ cup of cocoa butter
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- ½ cup of coconut oil
Melt the cocoa butter and coconut oil in a double boiler, and stir together with the honey. Allow the mixture to cool for about ten minutes, on the counter, and then place it in the fridge for about an hour, until it begins to set. Then, using a large bowl and an electric mixer, mix until peaks form and the “butter” becomes fluffy and light. That’s all there is to it!
This has all of the benefits of coconut oil, with a little extra sweetness for your sweetheart. It should keep for about 3 months at room temperature.
Tip: Want to add a little warming tingle? Add just a few drops (no more than four!) of peppermint essential oil.
Do keep in mind, as always, that oil based lubes are generally not recommended for use with latex condoms, as they can cause latex to weaken and break.Corn Starch Lube
Corn starch and water can make an incredibly inexpensive alternative to commercial lube, and learning how to make your own lube this way only takes about ten or twenty minutes! Here’s what you’ll need”
- 1 cup of cold water
- 4 teaspoons of corn starch
Mix the water and cornstarch in a small cook pan. Using low to medium heat, slowly bring the mixture to a boil, stirring often. Allow the mixture to boil, while stirring, for about thirty seconds. You’ll notice that it’s become far thicker and more transparent than it was initially.
Tip: You can make this lube thicker if you want by adding more corn starch. However, add corn starch slowly (about ½ a teaspoon at a time), bringing it to a boil slowly each time to ensure you don’t end up with something too sticky!
Flax Seed Lube
When boiled, flax seeds release oils and starches which, together, can create a great, natural, slippery personal lubricant. This lubricant is more gel-like in consistency than the corn starch alternative above. Here’s what you need:
- 2 cups of water
- 2 tablespoons of flax seeds
In a small cook plan, bring the water and flax seeds to boil over medium heat, stirring often. Allow the mixture to simmer quickly for about 20 minutes, and then strain the flax seeds. While the oil content is relatively low, it’s probably a good idea to avoid using this lube with latex condoms. Enjoy your new slippery, sexy personal lubricant gel!
